Introduction

NOTE:  Before continuing this article, you should be certain that you have a Black USB muilti-user license. If you have a Red USB network key or softkey network license (For either type, your license number will be something like L100000), refer to the following article: How do I monitor and control usage of the network license?

How I can see who is currently using an OpticStudio license? 

To see who is presently using a Black USB network license, refer to the section "Viewing Key and User Information" in the Knowledgebase article Installing OpticStudio with a Black USB network hardkey.

Can I write this data to a log file for subsequent analysis?

To write out network key usage data, follow the procedure below: 

1. On the keyserver machine, go to the installation folder for the Sentinel Key Server software. On English versions of Windows, the default location is:

32 bit Windows:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel Keys Server
64 bit Windows:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel Keys Server

2. Open the file sntlconfigsrvr.xml in Notepad. There are two log files you can create, one to log errors, and the other to log usage. We want this second one. Edit the LogClientRequestResponse section as follows:

and re-save the file.

3. In Control Panel...Administrative Tools...Services, restart the Sentinel Keyserver service:

4. The file client.log will now be created in the same folder as (1) above. The format of the log file is as follows:

Important Note: Zemax uses a "Sentinel Hardware Key" not a "Superpro" or "UltraPro" key. Therefore, be sure to follow the documentaion in the PDF related to the "Sentinel Keys License Monitor" NOT the "Sentinel License Monitor"
